Formulator’s Corner: Does Your Horse Need Rebound EQ?
Do these situations sound familiar?
• Your horse has been prescribed stall rest and you know you need to cut back on feed, however you notice your horse is losing muscle tone.
• You and your horse have been training well all summer but you notice that recovery from work is slow and your horse is lacking “gas in the engine.”
• Travel time for you and your horse has increased with the start of show season and lately you have noticed that your horse is easily fatigued.
What can you do to support your horse for stress, recovery, and detoxification?
Rebound EQ supports the body’s need for muscular support, antioxidants, GI tract support, circulation, immune and tissue repair, and supplies the body with the capability to bind metabolic and environmental toxins.
Rebound EQ for Recovery from Physical Stress and Layup:
A horse’s body that is in training or in competition faces a biological process of muscle breakdown and muscle building. Providing the Branched Chain Amino Acids (BCAA’s) is critical to support the process of muscle building and maintenance. Generally horses that lose muscle in layup do so because they aren’t getting enough protein, therefore ensuring your horse receives enough during layup will help with muscle retention.
Another biological process of horses in training is oxidative stress, which is the result of an increase in production of free radicals and Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS). Studies have shown that oxidative stress, if prolonged, can cause impairments in cell and tissue function, as well as damage through late cell death and an unhealthy inflammatory response. Antioxidants are the body’s defense against free radicals and ROS.
Bio-4Tien™ is our proprietary blend of: undenatured whey protein, organic hemp protein, dehydrated whole eggs, and organic yellow lentils. The synergy of these ingredients supports muscle building, muscle maintenance, and helps reduce muscle breakdown. Undenatured whey protein has been shown to reduce oxidative stress, exhibiting free radical scavenging activity. Recent studies have revealed that it can increase the presence of the powerful intracellular antioxidant glutathione.
The GI tract also benefits from this combination of ingredients. Providing varied sources like eggs, whey, hemp, and lentils helps support a more diverse colony of beneficial microorganisms.
BioFlora EQ: Our proprietary multi-strain microorganisms with Manno-Oligosaccharides (MOS) help colonize the GI tract with beneficial bacteria. MOS is micro-encapsulated to ensure release in the small and large intestines. With 100 Billion CFU’s per scoop, it can help reduce stress on the GI tract.
Selenium Yeast: Selenium is an important mineral involved in protection against oxidative stress in cells.
Organic Pomegranate: Research has shown that pomegranates have an antioxidant activity three times higher than green tea.
Alaria esculenta: Alaria is a kind of kelp, a sea vegetable from the North Sea in Scotland, which provides fat-soluble antioxidants, vitamins A, E, and K.
Bovine Colostrum: To support cellular growth factors for muscles and tissues, Rebound EQ contains BioStar’s unique bovine colostrum with 38% IgG. Bovine colostrum provides over 70 different growth factors for cellular repair. Bovine colostrum regulates the master of the immune system, the thymus gland. For horses during layup, bovine colostrum is also important for cellular support, tissue repair and healing.
Smectite clay: aids the body in reducing metabolic toxins, including those found in the digestive tract. It works to decrease the impact of environmental toxins through its negatively charged ions that attract and absorb the positive ions in toxins, impurities, and free radicals. Smectite clay acts like a magnet to absorb the toxins and carry them out of the body as waste. Think of smectic clay as a sponge, helping to mop up toxic metabolites.
Hawthorn Berry Powder: Provides circulatory support, which helps to reduce stiffness after training and competition. It also aids in circulation by dilating blood vessels and can help prevent histamine reactions, prostaglandins, and leukotrienes.
Rebound EQ for detoxification: heavy metals
We are seeing more and more horses with heavy metal overload. Heavy metals come from exhaust fumes, landfills, chemical fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, water, and soil. The common heavy metals are cadmium, lead, aluminum, mercury, arsenic and nickel. Heavy metals can interfere with the absorption of calcium, magnesium, potassium, sulfur, and trace minerals.
Smectite clay is one of the most effective toxin-binding clays. In fact, research conducted in China found that smectite clay was effective in removing lead ions out of water (Yin, Deng, Yu, Wang, and Xu. 2018).
A research study conducted in Germany, Smectite for Medical Use and Their Toxin Binding Capacity, showed smectite’s ability to absorb large amounts of toxins including heavy metals, ammonium, and histamine (Muller, Dobler, Schmidts, Rusch. 2019).
Smectite clay is part of the sodium bentonite family, which has also shown to be effective in binding aflatoxins such as Aspergillus flavus, and Parasiticus fungi.
The combination of smectite clay with Bio Flora EQ is particularly beneficial for horses with diarrhea and leaky gut. The clay absorbs the digestive toxins while the Bio Flora EQ supports a new colony of microorganisms and helps balance the pH of the hindgut.
Rebound EQ for the traveling horse:
Horses who travel to competitions, particularly over long distances, can benefit from Rebound EQ. The ingredients of BioFlora EQ and bovine colostrum support a stressed gut and immune system. In addition, our antioxidants and hawthorn berries help to reduce stiffness in long distance travel.
Rebound EQ offers full spectrum support for your horse. Whether they are on layup or on the go, you can rely on this multifaceted supplement to get your horse where they need be.
