Hedgerow Paste’s probiotic strains
Hedgerow GI, our powder-form gut supplement, is a blend of powerful active probiotic strains, Ayurvedic plants, and gut microbiome-supportive herbs found in traditional English hedgerows. This combination of microorganisms and plants provides a unique complement to the innate microbial diversity of the GI tract.
With 150 billion CFUs of active probiotics per serving, Hedgerow GI is one of the most advanced probiotic formulas on the market.
Just like Hedgerow GI, Hedgerow Paste provides 6 different probiotic strains (L. casei, L. rhamnosus, B. lactis, B. longum, L. acidophilus, B. subtilis), plus prebiotics, inulin and mannan-oligosaccharides (MOS). The spore bacteria Bacillus subtilis is an important addition, as it forms a protective barrier in the gut to prevent pathogenic bacteria from proliferating. It can withstand the acids of the stomach, unlike the Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium species. Our Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium strains are microencapsulated to ensure passage through the stomach to the small and large intestines.

Triphala, the Ayurvedic connection
Unique to Hedgerow Paste is the Ayurvedic blend known as Triphala. This ancient polyherbal combination is a cornerstone of gastrointestinal and rejuvenation support in Ayurvedic medicine. It is considered a tonic that encourages the growth of beneficial bacteria in the gut, while inhibiting bacteria such as E. coli. Triphala is high in the bioflavonoids quercetin and gallic acid, which support a healthy inflammatory response.1
Sunflower lecithin and apple pectin
The sunflower lecithin (non-GMO) in Hedgerow Paste helps support and protect the gastrointestinal lining. Because the phospholipids found in intestinal mucus are largely made of lecithin, the addition of lecithin supports healthy mucus in the intestine.
Apple pectin (premium grade, 99% pure) forms a barrier over the gastric mucosal membranes, protecting them from the irritation and burning effects of stomach acids. This is particularly important for horses with gastric ulcer sensitivities.
Healthy soil compounds
Fulvic and humic acids are principal components of soil and peat. In fact, soil’s health is dependent on the amount of fulvic and humic acids in it. These essential organic compounds can support a healthy gut bacterial balance, and are capable of binding to harmful substances in the body, such as glyphosate — reasons why fulvic and humic acids have been part of Ayurvedic medicine for 3,000 years.2
Hedgerow herbs and sea salt
Hedgerow Paste includes the old English hedgerow herbs organic fennel and organic peppermint leaf. These two plants have been used for hundreds of years by humans and animals to support digestion and GI tract health with less gas and bloating.
Sea salt provides electrolytes, helping to increase hydration and ensure proper fluid balance in cells and blood plasma.
