BioStar Ultra Hoof EQ hoof support supplement

Ultra Hoof EQ: Whole Food Hoof Support

Ultra Hoof EQ: A synergistic blend of specific hoof support nutrients bound to yeast for higher bioavailability, containing bovine colostrum for cellular support and Hawthorne berries for increased circulation.

No Hoof, No Horse:

There are many factors that affect hoof growth and hoof quality: age, breed, genetics, exercise, nutritional influences and or imbalances, environmental, illness, shoeing, trimming, and metabolic disorders.

There many hoof support supplements on the market that owners can choose from, most with the same important nutrients:  biotin, copper, zinc and methionine in various potencies.

Isolated Nutrients and Inorganic Minerals:

Biotin is a member of the B vitamin family, and is commonly found in supplements in either a synthetic form or made from coal tar derivatives.  These forms are known as “isolated” because they are not a part of the food matrix.  The bioavailability of isolated Biotin is lower than Biotin found in foods like yeast, rice, sunflower seeds, and mushrooms.  Due to the low bioavailability of isolates, higher amounts (milligrams) are needed to provide efficacy.

Methionine is an amino acid that in supplements and feed is produced chemically,  and synthetically.  In these forms methionine is an Isolate. Food sources include: sesame seeds, eggs, oats, wheat germ, and almonds.

Minerals are inorganic as they exist in soil and water.  The common forms are often oxides, sulfates, and carbonates.  Minerals are organic as they exist in plants and animals because plants can transform the inorganic minerals in soil and water into organic minerals through a process called chelation.

When animals eat the plants the animals are then absorbing chelated minerals. The absorption of inorganic minerals ranges from 2%-8%. The absorption of organic minerals from plants ranges from 45%- 88%.

Inorganic minerals are more susceptible to binding by dietary antagonisms including phytic acid and fiber, resulting in the loss of the mineral prior to absorption in the small intestine.

Food State Nutrients:

Feeding whole food provides hoof support nutrients (in fact all nutrients) in their most bioavailable form. The second most bioavailable form is called Food State: nutrients bound to yeast or other foods such as carrots, super green foods, and fruit.  Food State nutrients are used extensively by the top human whole food supplement companies: New Chapter, Mega Food, and Garden of Life.

Bioavailability chart for nutrients, including those crucial to hoof support

How is Food State Better?

Yeast is one of the most complex foods, providing a wide range of amino acids, vitamins, minerals, enzymes, and fiber.  It can confer probiotic as well as prebiotic benefits, depending on whether it is active yeast or fermented yeast.  When vitamins and minerals from plants are added to yeast during the budding and growing process the yeast metabolizes the nutrients and chelates them so that they become a part of the yeast itself.  Nutrients bound to yeast have significantly higher bioavailability than vitamins and amino acids made synthetically or chemically.  Minerals bound to yeast have significantly higher bioavailability than the inorganic minerals.  Food state nutrients have up to 70% bioavailability.

Ultra Hoof EQ is the first equine whole food hoof support formula that provides biotin, copper, zinc, and methionine in one of the most bioavailable forms: Food State; bound (chelated) to the yeast saccharomyces cerevisiae.

The Role of Circulation:

Arteries, veins, and capillaries are vascular pathways through bone and soft tissue and are key elements in providing hoof support and maintaining hoof health.  These vascular pathways are important for delivering nutrients and oxygen.  Hawthorne berries can dilate blood vessels, thus opening the channel for nutrient delivery, and also helping the body to get rid of toxins.*

Sesame seeds provide additional circulatory support because they contain high amounts of the amino acid Arginine, which the body uses to produce Nitric Oxide, the master circulatory molecule of the body.*

Growth Factors:

Bovine colostrum provides over 70 different growth factors that are important for cellular repair.  Bovine colostrum provides TGF-alpha and TGF-beta that play crucial roles in tissue regeneration, which is particularly important for horses with weak or shelly hoof walls, brittle, cracking or flaking feet.*

Calcium from whole food:

Organic alfalfa and organic sesame seeds provide calcium, which is essential for cell attachment in the hoof wall.  Inadequate calcium can contribute to brittle hooves or tenderness in the feet.  Whole food sources of calcium provide the highest bioavailability and absorption.*
