Buckaroo’s Stew: Warming Winter Foods Done Right

Kemosabe here. I’m supposed to write about warming winter foods for dogs, but how can I when the warming food from BioStar is called “Buckaroo’s Stew”? It’s not called Kemosabe’s Stew or Kemosabe’s Winter Blend, or Kemosabe’s Delicious Gourmet Winter Delight, oh no. It’s named after the one dog who needs warming stew as much as a polar bear.

According to my human, the food ingredients in this product named after Buckaroo and not me, are neutral and warming winter foods that support circulation, which is especially important for the dogs that need to wear jackets and those funny dog coats that look like horse blankets. Even though I am a double-coated dog, I like to have warm foods on cold days, and I really enjoy variety. It’s important to get different proteins, vegetables, fruits, and even some green foods to support the good bacteria in the gut, reduce food allergies, and lessen the picky-eater syndrome. In Buckaroo’s case, that’s not even a possibility; that dog has never met an edible he wouldn’t eat.

This formula is a blend of some of my favorite foods: eggs, pumpkin, carrots, blueberries, barley grass, alfalfa meal, oregano, almonds, and chia. The human mixes it in our food bowls with elk or bison or some cooked chicken, adds hot water or her homemade bone broth, lets it sit for a minute or two, and then feeds us. YUM! Buckaroo can eat his in three or four nanoseconds. He’s sort of the canine version of a Hoover vacuum cleaner.

Humans and horses aren’t the only ones who benefit from green foods. The green foods in this supplement are really good for us in winter, because there is only occasionally fresh farm grass to munch on, and city dogs really don’t get grass at all, and suburban grasses can have too much toxicity from pesticides and herbicides.

One of the unique plants in the formula is organic oregano, which I have a personal fondness for, since my human uses it in her homemade spaghetti sauce. It’s good for digestion, it provides potent antioxidants, and it even has anti-bacterial properties.

I’m looking forward to the day that a great food supplement is named after me. Until that time, I will continue to chow down on delicious warming winter foods in the form of You-Know-Who’s Stew, and keep reminding my human that a great dog like me needs his own superior blend.
