Diary of a Dog: Post-Surgery Days
Post-surgery Going Home Day: For some, recovery is sweet and simple – a few meds, an extra day off and then it’s back to work or play. Others have traumatic experiences and extensive periods of recuperation. I’m somewhere in between. I like the extra attention and enjoy the meat-flavored meds but gosh I’m sore. And it’s right under my leg, so standing, walking, moving, eating and peeing all hurt. Can we please move to a house without steps to get outside?
Post-surgery Annoying Day: If I promise not to lick the shaved spot or go for the sutures can we take off the silly t-shirt? I understand the goal is to keep things from getting messy, but this shirt is way to big and almost droops down to my paws. Annoyance doesn’t help relieve stress.
Post-surgery Self-conscious Day: I think I’m putting on weight. Between the soreness and the XL-shirt, I have little interest in walking very far whether for ‘business’ or pleasure, yet I’m eating as normal. I’ll exercise more when I feel better.
Post-surgery Vet Day: YES! Tubes and sutures removed! Still a bit sore but feeling better already. Had a party with some carrots and apples.
Magic Cat Day: I saw a black cat today. I’m not sure how it got there. I was lounging in the sun and suddenly it was on the other side of the glass door. When I jumped up to get a closer look, it disappeared. I guess they are magic.
Good Food Day: I’ve decided I also like dehydrated sweet potatoes.
Long Walk Day: Feeling good. Took the first long walk since the surgery almost a month ago. I love sniffing those deer tracks across the driveway and sticking my nose where the rabbits go.
Rainy Day: Rain, rain, go away! I don’t like getting wet, I don’t like how I smell once I get wet, and I don’t like walking through the mud puddles – which pretty much surround our house – when I decide I have no choice but to get wet. I think my personal best is 16 hours before having to go outside. I wish I had a better understanding of The Weather Channel. At least I get a treat to compensate for my suffering.
Awesome Day: Belly rub!
Deep Thought Day: There was a conversation today about the difference between workdays and weekends. It seems it’s OK to get up early for breakfast on workdays but weekends are different. Sleep-in? Late breakfast? But nothing’s better than a nap after a meal! So I suggest an early breakfast and then back to bed everyday.
